Pidder discovered why I couldn't post. At work we have a “shade tree” computer expert that we call on whenever we have a problem with computer programming. He holds the very strong opinion that Internet Explorer is the bad boy of all times because it lets viruses, worms, popups and all manner of evil into people's computers. He downloaded Mozilla and we were told to never use Internet Explorer again. I had noticed that my home computer got infected like 52 times in a week and three times in 6 months I've had to scrub and reload my hard drive (have it done). Today, while experimenting, Pidder went in thru Internet Explorer and low and behold I'm able to post. Now I have to worry about getting infected and/or suffering all manner of take over type popups.

Is there a way of downloading something in Mozilla that will duplicate whatever I have in IE that allows proper access to the forum.

Queried as to why he hasn't posted, this is his response:

I'd love to come back on the forum. Unfortunately, I

am locked out. I can sign on. I can read the posts,

and have been. I can start a new thread or click on

reply. I can even type in the title of the new

thread. But alas, when I try to type a message, the

cursor won't go in the message box. I've been trying

almost every day from the time the format changed and

it just won't let me post. I feel like I watching you

guys from inside a fish bowl and I'm yelling at you

but you just keep sipping your coffee and you can't

hear me yellng.

And it's true. I never did hear him yelling, not even once...how about y'all?

Wow! Whew! Jeeez! That was a close one. I tried to get into the forum last night and when I saw Frolix had posted on the Long Ride I clicked on to see how Merritt was and boom. An error page came up. All evening I kept returning to the computer and OOF same thing. This morning, when the same problem still existed I came to realize I was addicted, hooked, with monkey on back, the whole nine yards. Oh the agony! I knew I had to have a fix. I went to the street corner in Stapleton, the only street corner we have, and waited for a drug dealer to happen along (isn't that where people score a fix? On the street corner?) but nobody showed except the local Postmaster who asked me why I was pacing back and forth and looking like I was sweating cold beads of sweat. I asked her if she could get me an ounce or two of gulf community forum, just to tide me over. She looked at me with pity in her sad eyes and said “You are in need of some snow, right?” I told her no, I really was concerned more about Sudz and Jazz. She looked at me kind of funny then and made a swift retreat back into the post office. I made it back to my house around noon thirty (after passing out on the road a couple of times) and found the forum problem was solved. You'll never know what a relief it was. I swear I'll never let this happen to me again. I'm saving up a stash of forum in a mason jar and hiding it under my bed.

But wait, if I call myself within the next 5 minutes I could also save some in the refrigerator.

Is there anyway to show when we have private messages ?

Something perhaps like the check mark that appears in the “ profile “ block.

Or am I not looking in the right place?

Okay, this question was asked way back when the forum first started, but it hasn't been answered to my satisfaction. Cause I need stuff explained to me like a child you know.

There are so many different forums that you must page down page down page down page down to make sure you don't miss any “New Post” icon (or whatever it says when it changes to indicate a new reply has been made).

Is there an existing way - or can you make a way - to display all new posts together at the top of the forum list to eliminate having to page down to locate them all? Maybe there's just something I'm overlooking...?

Thanks, -frolix

Everbody's got one but me. I want one. I picked out a photograph I want to load as my Avatar. I went to my profile, found a place that says “pick Avatar” and clicked on a drop down file. I found a list of choices there but have no way of knowing what each looks like. Or do I? Anyway, the photo I want to load is not among them.

I went to the next line down “Author's Image” and it told me to browse. I did and clicked on the picture I want, clicked “Open” and it put the picture file name in the line. I clicked on “Upload” then “save” and nothing happened. What am I doing wrong?

On Welcome to Programmers Anonymous, I see a new post made last night 03/09 by Void but I'm unable to find it. I see a total of six of six pages but his isn't on it (as far as I can tell).

Also, I've just discovered “Tree View” versus “Flat View”. Flat View obviously I understand. Please explain exactly how the other works. Replies to specific posts are listed under that specific post but must be opened? Which posts display open when you enter the thread? I'm a little confused. (No comments please.)

Is there any way to set the properties where you can view more replys to the thread per page? As it is right now, I think it is like 4 or 5 and then goes to the next page.

Special thanks to CrabbyAbby to drawing my attention to the bug in the forums. Apparently if two people wrote messages in the forums at the same time, the message went into the wrong forum category. I believe it will be fixed, now.
