Hurricane Ivan

Has anyone heard from anyone?  I'd sure like to know if everyone survived the Ivanmiester okay.  I know Luna had to stay in town because of the business she's in, Frolix was planning to riding it out on a small sailboat and Sunndew lives in one of the worse places.

Irish, your family is fine.  Your dad's home was undamaged, same with mine.  I'm worried about Eddie and will attempt to drive into Mobile tonight to check on them.  There are no phones working in that part of Mobile.  He rode it out at home and planned to go outside and videotape.

I'm worried for Anomaly.  Robertsdale was hit very hard.

Somebody tell me something

Re: Hurricane Ivan

Hey All,

I hope everyone faired well in the storm.  Thanks for the concern, Sudz, we're okay!

We chickened out later Tuesday afternoon, packed our bags and cat and headed to Disney World.   We came back through Friday Morning, (through Pensacola, that was an adventure).   Our home faired better than I thought it would, being a Dobbins home and - in my opinion - poorly built.    We lost a few small (2-3 year old) trees, a bunch of shingles and one of our closets smells mildewy.   So, no real considerable damage to report.  For once, living in an open field apparently was a good thing.   My father in law's place looks like a bomb went off in his back yard, trees everywhere- but his house faired well.    He says that he'll never leave - even for a 5.

A friend of mine that lives a block away rode it out and said he will never do it again - he was - and still is - freaked out by it.

Early reports from my coworkers say that my workplace on Palafox, right next to Seville Quarter - sustained a good deal of damage, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out in the days and weeks to come.   I hope everyone is well and if the website can be used in any way to assist your rebuild efforts, please use it as such or let me know how I can make it more accomodating to do so.

I  hope you and your families are well, and hope to hear from you and your stories..

Re: Hurricane Ivan

Hi all!

Whew!  Let me 'fess up at this point and admit that in hindsight I probably made a dreadful mistake in staying in my condo which is just across 98 from the bay.  As it happened, we were spared.  Had Ivan not turned at the last possible moment I likely wouldn't have been here to be checking in.

Much much tree damage but no un-fixable structural damage.  My four cats and three complex-kitties, along with my parakeets, rode it out in my upstairs unit...all the felines being maxed out on tranquilizers.  Sophie and I were with my downstairs neighbor through the night, she (Sophie, not my neighbor) likewise zonked and me about to take one of their tranquilizers about one-ish.  Note for the future:  Pet Tranquilizers ROCK!  (Disclaimer: not for human consumption.  Speaking from experience during my earlier more experimental days.)  They didn't even know a storm was out there, seriously.

My  house in Loxley where my mom and stepdad reside had damage...I figure I probably have enough damage to meet but not exceed the $2000 hurricane deductible.  Sigh.  Can't complain though.  At least everybody's okay.

Spent a lot of time over the last few days in ice/water lines, for which I must send extreme kudos to the organizers and volunteers...stellar work, all, as we didn't get our power back on until last night.  Note:  MRE's are cool little inventions.  I don't know what chemicals they contain to make them heat up so quickly (and don't want to know, thank you) but quite tasty and enough for even the largest appetites like mine.

I wouldn't do it again.  Of course that's what I say now, five days after the fact.  Sometimes I'm told I have a short memory.

Glad to hear from you guys, and hope to hear from everyone else soon.

-frolix

Re: Hurricane Ivan

I'm fine as well, though I think I averaged about 2 hours of sleep a day from Tuesday-Sunday. I handled the overnight shift of our 100+ hours of live coverage and spent the days after the storm working around my house. My house is fine, with the exception of a leaky roof in one spot and maybe a missing shingle here or there. My phone line was pulled from the pole, so it will be sometime before I have a home phone... thank heavens for my little cell phone. As of 3pm Monday, I'm still without power, though I guess that's to be expected when you live in the Oak-lined Spring Hill/Old Shell Road area. Happy I am to say, though, the tree crews were moving through our neighborhood today, pulling limbs off power lines. Me thinks the power trucks aren't too far behind.

I lost 3 trees in my backyard... have to call my landlord about that. Other than that, things are great. It will take me a week or so to catch up on my rest... and for now, Tom and I are still sleeping at the station until we get power restored. I'm not a wimp b/c of lack of a/c... but rather, because it's crazy dark at night and he leaves for work at 2am. I'm just not comfortable being without power and alone that time of night with windows open.

Glad to read you guys came through ok. Anyone heard from Viper?
